Education and Experience
Ms. Gu earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, William S. Richardson School of Law in 2023. During law school, she worked as an associate for Hawaii Gas, involved in both transaction and regulatory work. She also took an externship with the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission. Ms. Gu received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Civil Procedure I. Ms. Gu has her Bachelor of Law and Master of Law degrees from Soochow University, China. She passed the Chinese National Bar Exam in 2011 and practiced as an Assistant Prosecutor for six years in the People’s Procuratorate of Kunshan, China. She focused on civil and administrative law during her practice in China. She initiated and was involved in multiple civil, commercial, and administrative proceedings, reversed judgments where perjury or fraudulent evidence was involved, and inspected administrative enforcement actions. She also prosecuted public interest-related environmental litigations and consumer protection litigations and negotiated remedies during the litigation process.
 
She is a native Mandarin speaker. Before joining Kobayashi, Sugita, and Goda, she assisted Mandarin-speaking clients with several real estate disputes in Honolulu.

Ms. Gu is admitted to practice before state and federal courts in the State of Hawaii and is a member of the Hawaii State Bar Association.
