Mr. Smith joined Kobayashi, Sugita & Goda after graduating from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2016. While at Hastings, Mr. Smith participated in a Mediation externship with the San Francisco Superior Court and was an active participant in the Moot Court program - winning multiple awards for oral advocacy and appellate writing.

Mr. Smith received the CALI Excellence for the Future Awards and Witkin Awards for Academic Excellence in Appellate Advocacy and International Trade Law and Policy. Mr. Smith was also a participant in the Hastings Appellate Project during his final year of law school and was selected to give oral argument at the Ninth Circuit in front of a panel consisting of Judges O'Scannlain, Farris, and Christen.

Mr. Smith served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Judge Jeffrey J. Helmick at the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio in his hometown of Toledo where he graduated from Anthony Wayne High School.

In 2011, Mr. Smith graduated summa cum laude from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, earning a Bachelor of the Arts in International Political Economy and Diplomacy, a Bachelor of the Arts in Social Science, and a Graduate Certificate in Global Development and Peace. Prior to Bridgeport, Mr. Smith spent his first two undergrad years at Chaminade University of Honolulu.

Professional Associations and Licenses

Mr. Smith is a member of the Hawaii State Bar Association and American Bar Association. He is admitted to practice before all Hawaii state courts and the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii.

After his competitive soccer career was ended through injury during his final year at the University of Bridgeport, Mr. Smith transitioned into coaching and served at a coach at his alma mater in Bridgeport and further coached in the US youth academy system. Currently, Mr. Smith also serves as an assistant coach for the men's soccer program at Chaminade University.
